Synopsis
The Hoarder’s Hunt was the second Mystery released in Sea of Thieves. Similar to the first one, it was designed to test the community’s wits and further deepen the knowledge of the game world by offering diverse gameplay that combined out-of-game puzzles and in-game Voyages. But unlike its predecessor, the focus of this Mystery wasn’t bringing the community to work together, but rather having players face each other in a treasure hunt that would reward the fastest players to complete the final stage with valuable real-life prizes.
The second Mystery revolved around a mysterious figure known as ‘H’ who delivered cryptic messages both outside and inside the game world, which were split into four stages. By making sense of H’s ARG clues and then typing out the correct password on the Sea of Thieves website, players unlocked a specific Voyage that led to uncovering H’s mysterious journal. The journal then provided ambient clues leading players to specific locations within Sea of Thieves. By reaching the final chapter of each Voyage, players were able to dig out a key matching the locks of a chest that appeared under Gold Hoarders’ tents, becoming one more step closer to finding the truth behind the culprit’s intentions.
