Synopsis
Who Killed DeMarco? was the first Mystery released in Sea of Thieves. Mysteries were announced in May 2022 as a new addition to ever-evolving content updates along with Adventures, episodic storylines which expanded the world of Sea of Thieves. While Seasons and Adventures offered a more familiar Sea of Thieves feel, Mysteries represented a new way of expanding the gameplay experience in ways players haven’t seen before.
The first Mystery was focused on the murder of a beloved character DeMarco who along with his sister Lesedi, was a leader of the Sea Dogs who previously ran the Arena. Throughout four months, players needed to gather clues by solving various puzzles on Sea of Thieves social channels and exploring specific locations within the game, from unlocking secret mechanisms to diving deep below the surface to find the unknown figure behind this murder mystery.
The biggest innovation Mysteries offered was changing the game world dynamically, without needing to release content through game patches. At their core, Mysteries were designed to combine both in-game and out-of-game puzzles and other elements discovered on official Sea of Thieves channels to attract the curious minds of the entire community.
